Continuing on from last newsletter on the subject of Yoga Nidra. It can't be understated how powerful a tool it is for the evolution of the mind. Put into practice regularly, Yoga Nidra gives lasting benefits that allows you to discover the different layers of the mind: the conscious, subconscious and the unconscious.
It is a simple yet insightful and powerful practice that can bring deep and transformative change in the personality. Yoga Nidra takes you into a deep state where the mind dissociates from your senses. This is called Pratyahara, meaning sense withdrawn. The mind can become very powerful if trained correctly.
Yoga Nidra trains the involuntary parts of the brain, by creating a certain state of awareness that enables you to monitor the higher centre's of the brain. If this doesn't happen, there is no difference between this practice and sleep.
In a state of Pratyahara, we are able to observe past experiences embedded in our subconscious mind, memories and patterning as they appear. This process maybe likened to Samskara, which "is a rite…, through a process of purification, makes a certain thing or person fit for a certain purpose" ~Swami Satyasangananda Saraswati.
Learning to become the observer of the subconscious mind, with no disturbance, attachment or aversion, gives you the ability to release buried, deep-seated tensions accumulated throughout life. You gradually become free. And don't we all want that…Freedom from conditioned responses and un-wanted behavior and habits! Also, with this comes a release to the blocks to intuition, instinctive knowledge from the unconscious mind and answers to your problems or situations within your become clear.
